India reports second confirmed case of monkeypox from Kerala's Kannur

On Monday, A 31-year-old man from Kannur in Kerala tested positive for monkeypox. A Union Health Ministry official stated that this makes it the second confirmed case of the disease in India. 

The Union health ministry rushed a multi-disciplinary team to Kerala. The team was sent to assist the state health authorities in implementing public health measures after the confirmed case of monkeypox was detected in the Kollam district. Given the report of confirmation of a case of monkeypox disease from Kollam district in Kerala,  the health ministry officials stated that the central government is taking proactive steps by monitoring the situation carefully and coordinating with states in case of any such possibility of an outbreak.

According to the World Health Organization, Monkeypox is a virus that spreads from animals to people, according to the World Health Organization. Monkeypox has replaced smallpox as the most significant orthopox virus for public health since smallpox was eradicated in 1980. It has similar symptoms to smallpox but is clinically less severe.
